Native DynamoDB client for macOS

DynoByte

Browse, query and edit DynamoDB without losing a type.

DynoByte is a native Mac app for working with Amazon DynamoDB. It keeps every attribute type exactly as stored, shows you every write before it is sent, and talks to nothing but AWS.

Features

Built for tables that matter.

DynoByte is made for people who point it at production. It is careful by default and shows you exactly what it is doing.

01

Every type, intact

All ten DynamoDB types are modelled exactly. Sets stay sets, binary stays binary, and numbers are never rounded.

Numbers are kept as text, all 38 significant digits.

02

Review before you write

Every create, edit and delete is validated, then shown as a diff with the exact request DynoByte will send.

Nested changes are listed by path.

03

No silent overwrites

Creates fail if the item exists. Edits and deletes fail if it has gone. By default, edits also check nobody changed it while you were working.

Conflicts show up as a clear message, not lost data.

04

Queries checked first

Build queries and scans with filters and projections. Key values are checked against the table schema before anything is sent.

Scans never run on their own. Each page loads when you ask.

05

Signs in like the AWS CLI

Use your existing profiles, IAM Identity Center, assume-role, credential_process or access keys. SSO sign-in happens in the app.

Sessions are shared with the AWS CLI, both ways.

06

Errors you can act on

When AWS says no, you see AWS's own error code, message and request ID, with a plain-English headline and a suggested fix.

Nothing is hidden behind "something went wrong".

07

Favorites and tabs

Save connections as Favorites with colour labels and folders. Open another account or region in a new tab with ⌘T.

Favorites store a name, colour, profile and region. Never credentials.

08

A real Mac app

Written in Swift and SwiftUI with the official AWS SDK. Menus, shortcuts, windows and tabs work the way they do in every other Mac app.

No Electron, no web view.

Safe writes

See the request before it is sent.

Change a value and DynoByte works out the smallest update that does the job. You get a review screen with the change and the request itself. Nothing is sent until you press Save.

  • Only the attributes you changed are written: SET and REMOVE, never a full overwrite.
  • The item must still exist and, by default, the values you started from must still be there.
  • Before editing, the item is re-read with a consistent read, so you review against what is stored now.
  • Deletes ask for confirmation and show the table and key.
Review changes · Orders
# Changed: total 129.00 → 139.00, status "pending" → "paid"
$ UpdateItem  table=Orders
Key pk = CUSTOMER#1042 sk = ORDER#2026-10-05#0007
UpdateExpression SET #n0 = :v0, #n1 = :v1
ConditionExpression attribute_exists(#pk) AND #n0 = :v2 AND #n1 = :v3
:v0 = {"N":"139.00"}  :v2 = {"N":"129.00"}
:v1 = {"S":"paid"}    :v3 = {"S":"pending"}
✓ Saved. Row updated with the returned item.

Privacy

Your data goes to AWS and nowhere else.

DynoByte is often pointed at production data, so it is strict about where things go.

No tracking

No telemetry, analytics or crash reporting. DynoByte does not know who you are or how you use it.

Credentials stay with the AWS SDK

DynoByte uses the standard AWS credential providers and never keeps its own copy. It reads profile names and regions, not your keys.

Items stay on screen

Table data is never cached to disk. Copying to the clipboard only happens when you ask.

Two exceptions, both your choice

Entering a licence key checks it with our payment provider. Update checks happen only if you turn them on.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Which Macs does it run on?

macOS 15 Sequoia or later.

Why is it not on the Mac App Store?

App Store apps must run in a sandbox, which blocks access to ~/.aws and stops credential_process helpers from running. DynoByte needs both to work with your existing AWS setup, so it is sold directly instead.

Does it work with IAM Identity Center (SSO)?

Yes. Connect starts the sign-in in your browser and stores the token in ~/.aws/sso/cache, the same place the AWS CLI uses. You can also add a new Identity Center connection from inside the app.

Do I need the AWS CLI?

Only for profiles created with aws login (AWS console sign-in). Those need AWS CLI v2.32 or later, which DynoByte runs for you. Every other kind of profile works without it.

What happens when the trial ends?

DynoByte drops to read-only: you can still connect, browse and query, but writes, import and export are switched off until you enter a licence.

What happens when my 12 months of updates end?

Nothing stops working. You keep every version released during your 12 months. If you want newer versions, renew for another 12 months.

Does it work with DynamoDB Local?

Not yet. The groundwork is in the app, but there is no endpoint setting yet. It is on the list.

Is there a Windows or Linux version?

Both are planned as native apps. Join the list below and choose the platform you want.

What IAM permissions does it need?

Read-only browsing needs ListTables, DescribeTable, Query, Scan and GetItem. Editing adds PutItem, UpdateItem and DeleteItem. The getting started guide has a policy you can copy.
